“For Want Of”

For Want Of is my blog about music. It includes a series featuring “perfect punk albums,” defined as having no skippable song, as well as an exploration of the resonance between jazz (especially 1960s-1970s) and the punk music and scene I grew up with. Expect close listening, personal memoir, and a lot of thinking about music and what it does to and for us.

"Punk" here is used broadly: hardcore, emo, screamo, punk rock, hardcore punk, post-hardcore, all of it.

Who am I? I played guitar and bass in several DC, NYC, and Delaware punk bands and booked shows in the DIY scene for the better part of thirty years. In recent years, I took a deep detour into jazz, and am interested in where those two worlds converge.
